We started our pumpkin unit on measuring how many pumpkins tall we were then making a class book. When we finished our writing how tall we were we found friends and discussed who was taller and who was shorter; we then put the whole class in order from tallest to shortest.
We use the program Write from the beginning for our writing; for the first six weeks I model a narrative sentence with a detailed picture then the children write their sentences. I focus on having the children drawing a detailed picture of themselves and the setting, and attempt to write word wall words and beginning sounds to words.
I really like the program and the children are showing great improvement since the beginning of school. Here are a few pictures of thier writing in October.
We started working on action words this week. I read our big book of the week on Tuesday and the children told me the action words from the book then on Wednesday they gave me action words for our circle map as I typed the words. We went to the computer lab on Thursday and the children made their own circle maps then they printed their work.
