Addition and Subtraction

We started working on addition and subtraction stories today. I gave the children story problems and the children acted them out using candy corn and a jack o lantern. They then made up thier own stories up using the candy corn.

They really enjoyed this activity and I of course let them eat two at the end and couldn't resist showing them this fun trick.

egg addition

We did addition and subtraction facts today. I took plastic eggs and numbered them then put a math fact inside each egg. I numbered the eggs so they knew which ones they already completed. While the children where in the hall I had an aide in my class hide the eggs around the room. We were suppose to do this outside but because of the fires around our area and the wind it wasn't the best air quality.
The children had to find the eggs and write the math sentences on paper and answer.

Here are their Easter Bunnies. OH how they love googly eyes!

Addition and Subtraction

It has been a crazy week and I didn't even get a chance to take pictures, so I will post some of my addition and subtractions activities. I have many different mats and manipulative's to go with them. Not only do the children have to act out the facts but I also make them write them.

Next week we will be working on your zoo unit, so I will have plenty of pictures. I am really excited about this lesson and hope the children really enjoy all that I have planned.

I started this blog for the parents of my kindergarten's a year and a half ago and now I have 100 followers. WOW! I am really amazed that many people have read my little old blog. I really want to thank all my followers and people that have visited, it really means a lot to me to know that people are looking at my blog and I hope that I have helped fellow teachers.

Spring Addition

We worked on addition this week using flowers. I gave each child a dice and had them roll it and draw that many flower stems then write their number on the flower pot. When they finished making the flowers I had them get with a friend and add the numbers up and write a number sentence.

I got the idea from Kid Adsit's spring unit and adapted to fit my class.

Valentines

We used this graphic organizer to write about Love is... in whole group then the children did their own organizer and writing. They did such a great job using this format that I will be using other organizers for our writing.
I just love the ideas they came up with

I had won a Valentine Unit from littlestlearners.blogspot, where this came from. If you have not already you should take a look at her blog, she has excellent resources.

In math we used conversation hearts to do addition, we used the cards as number generators.

St. Patrick's Math

We used gold coins to represent numbers 15-20. The children also picked a number out of a bag and had to represent their number using coins then talk to their neighbor to see who had more or less or the same. At the end of the week they did addition and subtraction sentences.

Addition

We started working on addition sentences last week. Children were put in pairs and given snowman with buttons and had to roll a dice as a number generator and add the numbers using buttons then write the numbers on their sheet. They also had horses with a horse corral doing the same activity the next day.
