Addition and Subtraction

We started working on addition and subtraction stories today. I gave the children story problems and the children acted them out using candy corn and a jack o lantern. They then made up thier own stories up using the candy corn.

They really enjoyed this activity and I of course let them eat two at the end and couldn't resist showing them this fun trick.

Addition and Subtraction

It has been a crazy week and I didn't even get a chance to take pictures, so I will post some of my addition and subtractions activities. I have many different mats and manipulative's to go with them. Not only do the children have to act out the facts but I also make them write them.

Next week we will be working on your zoo unit, so I will have plenty of pictures. I am really excited about this lesson and hope the children really enjoy all that I have planned.

I started this blog for the parents of my kindergarten's a year and a half ago and now I have 100 followers. WOW! I am really amazed that many people have read my little old blog. I really want to thank all my followers and people that have visited, it really means a lot to me to know that people are looking at my blog and I hope that I have helped fellow teachers.

St. Patrick's Math

We used gold coins to represent numbers 15-20. The children also picked a number out of a bag and had to represent their number using coins then talk to their neighbor to see who had more or less or the same. At the end of the week they did addition and subtraction sentences.

Subtraction

We worked on subtraction using "Five Little Monkey's". We sang the song and watched a power point then we acted out the story. The kids had a really great time with the alligator as it ate up each monkey. They also made subtraction sentences using the monkeys.
